As expected, Apple celebrated the 10th anniversary of the iPhone by unveiling its first premium-tier phone at its press event in Cupertino today. The iPhone X will sport an edge-to-edge OLED screen that takes up the entire face of the phone, prime real estate that's made more expansive with the excision of the physical home button, a mainstay on the iPhone for the past decade. The 5.8-inch "super retina" display has a 2436 x 1125 resolution, the highest ever for an iPhone. The phone itself is is wrapped in stainless steel with glass at the front as well as the black.

As expected, Touch ID is replaced with "Face ID," which uses the front-facing camera and an array of sensors to unlock the phone. The "TrueDepth" camera projects and analyzes a million invisible dots to create a depth map of your face, resulting in a secure way to unlock your phone, authenticate Apple Pay purchases and even create animated emojis.

The processor is the same A11 Bionic chip found in the new iPhone 8, with a six-core CPU and two high-performance cores, along with 3 gigs of RAM. And despite the added processing power, Apple says that the battery life should be improved, with the iPhone X adding two more hours of use compared to the iPhone 7. Along with the better battery comes an improved method of charging. Like the iPhone 8, the X will feature wireless charging, with Apple adopting the Qi standard so that it's compatible with current Qi pads from the likes of Mophie and Belkin.

The back-facing camera features the same dual 12-megapixel shooters found on the iPhone 8 Plus, with f/1.8 and f/2.4 apertures, and optical image stabilization on both lenses. Video has also been improved with 4K resolution movies at 60fps and slow motion video at 240fps, and the 7-megapixel front-facing camera also features Portrait Mode.

Pricing for the iPhone X starts at $999 for the 64GB model, and $1,149 for the 256GB. Pre-orders start October 27th, and the phone ships November 3rd. It's available only in Silver or Space Gray color options.
