In an Instagram post simply captioned "The Future of Basketball," Marc Dolce previewed a performance basketball sneaker featuring adidas' FUTURECRAFT 4D. The technology, billed as the next evolutionary step beyond 3D printing, utilizes a complex process known as Digital Light Synthesis. It had previously been used only on running shoes, most recently on the AlphaEDGE 4D LTD and Y-3 Runner 4D, but it's no surprise that the Three Stripes has bigger plans for the potentially game-changing innovation. As for the post's author, Marc Dolce should know a thing or two about the future of performance footwear: the former Global Director of Nike Sportswear now helms adidas' "Brooklyn Creator Farm" in Greenpoint, where he and his team are cooking up the sneakers you'll be wearing in the next two or three years. This FUTURECRAFT 4D sneaker, featuring a socklike knit upper, could be one of them. Stay tuned.
