Over the past year, we've seen Supreme continue to reach increasing new heights in the fashion world. Once you've launched a collaboration with the luxury house Louis Vuitton, followed months later by a billion-dollar valuation, can you still claim to embody downtown NYC skate culture? The latest benchmark for the ascendant brand is a surprising CFDA nomination. That's right, Supreme founder James Jebbia is among the list of Menswear Designer of the Year nominees, alongside Thom Browne, Tom Ford, Raf Simons and a fellow streetwear luminary, Virgil Abloh. (For the uninitiated, the CFDA -- or Council of Fashion Designers of America -- gives out annual awards that are generally considered the Academy Awards of the fashion world.) This year's unusual nominee pool can likely be attributed in part to an email that CFDA head Steven Kolb issued to the 500-plus voters, instructing them to strive for inclusiveness when considering their selections.

The 2018 awards show is scheduled for June 4th at the Brooklyn Museum, with Insecure star Issa Rae acting as host.
