Premier L.A. retailer Union is set to launch the Spring/Summer 2018 collection of its burgeoning private label, featuring apparel inspired by vintage American workwear staples, deconstructed and re-interpreted with "afrocentric iconography" and "a laidback summer color palette." Many of the pieces, including mechanic's jackets, military shirts and work pants, are constructed from premium Japanese fabrics in oversized, boxy, slightly cropped silhouettes. Some of the pieces are emblazoned with custom patches, referencing Charles Mingus and Stokely Carmichael, while others are printed with a floral print inspired by African waxprint cloth, as well as an allover cartoon featuring Union's new mascot, the Black Sheep.
The Union Spring/Summer 2018 collection launches Saturday, April 21, in conjunction with the opening of Union Tokyo, the brand's first new store in 27 years. Customers can shop the goods at Union Los Angeles and Union Tokyo, and online at unionlosangeles.com and uniontokyo.jp.
