adidas is set to launch the Solarboost, a new technical running shoe that's designed for pure function and performance. The development of the shoe was inspired by NASA engineering, in which every part and component has been maximized for a unique purpose. The result is a model that weighs in at just 295g (for a men's size 9), 15g lighter than the previous Energy Boost silhouette, thanks in part to Tailored Fiber Placement. The cutting-edge technology uses Aramis data to precisely lay down fibers, featuring Parley material content, along the midfoot. Additional details include an updated Energy rail for increased stability, a refined fit counter for a more accommodating fit, and a BOOST midsole for lightweight energy return. A grippy Stretchweb rubber outsole is the finishing touch.

Retailing for $160, the adidas Solarboost launches May 17th at adidas.com and select U.S. retailers. Worldwide availability follows on June 1.
