Supreme's James Jebbia Took Home the CFDA Award for Menswear Designer of the Year
Last night at the CFDA Fashion Awards, held at the Brooklyn Museum, Supreme founder James Jebbia was crowned the Menswear Designer of the Year. It was the upset of the night, not only because Supreme self-identifies as a skate brand -- though last year's Louis Vuitton collaboration might suggest otherwise -- but also because Jebbia is more businessman than designer. Nattily attired in a charcoal grey suit and a crisp white shirt, the streetwear veteran stepped up to the podium and said precisely that in a matter-of-fact acceptance speech. "I've never considered Supreme to be a fashion company, or myself a designer," he said. "But I appreciate the recognition for what we do."
