At its annual Democratic Design Days event, IKEA previewed pieces from the brand's upcoming MARKERAD collection with Virgil Abloh. "Given how tremendous this opportunity is," says the acclaimed designer, "I'm not content to just make another chair." Instead, Abloh's take on the home furnishing staple has a triangular red doorstop supporting the base of one of the legs, an "interruption" that elevates the "anonymous, everyday icons that we use without noticing." Along with the doorstop, IKEA previewed a glass cabinet, encased in a wooden frame with transparent glass panels and a red handle in the shape of a nail, and a rug that's essentially a giant IKEA receipt.
The MARKERAD collection will hit IKEA stores in 2019.
