In announcing the launch of the highly anticipated Element React 87, Nike pulls back the curtain to reveal how the shoe was made. The first two elements took the form of a slab of foam and a drill, used in a long process of trial and error to determine which depths and densities achieved the optimum level of cushioning and comfort. Engineers then took what they learned and applied the data through computational design scripts. The result was a new articulation of Nike's React technology, highlighted by a patterned midsole illustrating where the drill experiments had realized the aforementioned different densities, now perfectly scaled to every shoe size.
As for the upper, it's constructed from a translucent TPE yarn textile, with eye-stay detailing and a heel clip inspired by earlier Nike designs, including the Internationalist.
The Nike Element React 87 will launch June 21st through SNKRS in Asia, Latin America and Greater China, and SNEAKRS in Europe and select retailers. A North American release follows on July 13 via SNKRS select retailers.
