With the NBA All-Star Game taking place in Charlotte, North Carolina this weekend, local skate shop Black Sheep will be taking advantage of the influx of people to release their collaborative Nike SB Dunk High "Black Hornet."
The animal theme continues for the duo as previously a "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" iteration was created on the Dunk High as well. For this latest project, the colors of the Charlotte Hornets from the early '90s are the design inspiration and are carried out on the iridescent leather upper which shifts from teal to purple to black depending on the angle of light. A hornet's nest hive and past SB classics incite the elephant print.
On the tongue is a hex "hive" pattern constructed with tonal, black on black nylon mesh. Further details include custom metal honeycomb-shaped eyelets and a "hornet wing" print underneath the side flaps. The NBA logo is also incorporated on the inside of the tongue and insole. Finally, a smooth black leather Swoosh is combined with silver embroidery to represent a hornet's stinger.
Black Sheep will be launching the sneaker first on February 15 with an exclusive "Hornets Nest" box, a 4-pack of Nike SB stickers, honeycomb hex "deubre" lace locks, a 3-pack of special laces designed in collaboration with Fully Laced, a mini foam basketball and cinch bag. The general public can expect the "Black Hornet" SB to release at skate shops on February 22 with a Nike SNKRS app release on February 24.
