Apple Announces Second Generation of AirPods With Wireless Charging
Apple has announced and revealed its second generation of AirPods.
The biggest difference between these and the first generation will be the optional Qi-compatible wireless charging case, a standard non-wireless charging case is also available as an option. A new Apple-designed H1 chip, designed for headphones, will allow for faster connections (2x faster switching between active devices and 1.5x faster for phone calls), hands-free "Hey Siri" function and 30% lower gaming latency.
Apple is promising "more than 24 hours of total listening time" with a single charge and "up to three hours of listening time" with just a 15-minute charge. One full charge will get you five hours of listening time. As always, the device will pair easily with other Apple products via Bluetooth.
Pricing is as follows: $199 for the new wireless charging case and AirPods and $159 for the regular non-wireless charging version. If you want to upgrade your current generation case to a wireless case, it'll cost $79. For new purchases, there will be free engraving offered. You can order now on apple.com.
