Blending nonnative's city aesthetic expertise with Hurley's knowledge of nature and water specifically, the duo have created a 12-piece collection featuring a rash guard short-sleeve tee, classic surf shorts, soft foldable cap and bucket hat in three colors: Black, Obsidian and Cargo Khaki. Dri-Fit ensures comfort for the tops and bottoms.
Designer Takayuki Fujii hearkens back to 2017 for the inspiration for the collection when he moved from Tokyo to a seaside town. He wanted to go to the beach and relax but didn't know how to surf and didn't want to just wear surfwear:
"I noticed that a lot of surfwear adopted loud colors and patterns, which isn’t really my style. That’s when I came up with the idea for this collection. A surfwear set-up with nonnative aesthetic. And for this idea, I thought Hurley would be the best fit. The fact that they use Nike fabrics and technology was also a plus point for me. If you live in the 23 wards of Tokyo, you can jump in the car, drive an hour to the beach and play in the sea with your kids. If you could then dry off quickly, return to Tokyo and head straight out for a drink without having to change your clothes - that’s what this collection is made for."
You can pick up the collection on June 28 via COVERCHORD and other retailers. The tee and Vagabond bucket will cost you ¥7,800 JPY (~$73 USD), the Andy cap is ¥5,500 JPY (~$51 USD) and the Convoy Volley Shorts 18" will run you ¥11,800 JPY (~$110 USD).
