Set to arrive in three colors: yellow, orange and green, the bear theme is a reference to the rock band's dancing bears, who first appeared on the back cover of their 1973 LP "History of the Grateful Dead, Volume 1 (Bear’s Choice)."
Each pair's suede upper is complemented with a fuzzy faux far in matching color and a frayed Nike Swoosh logo in a bold color to mimic the bear's collars. The collaboration also pays respect to Bear, an audio engineer for the band that developed the cartoon symbol and the group's Wall of Sound system. In doing so, they honor Sandy Bodecker, the father of Nike SB and his impact on skate culture.
David Lemieux, the band’s archivist and legacy manager said this:
"The band wouldn’t become what it is today without Bear’s innovations and contributions. The same fiercely independent spirit from Bodecker helped create that authenticity within the skate community."
The release for the set is a little complex. Those who want to purchase the exclusive orange pair will have to head over to FTC today to enter a raffle. A July 18 release has been announced for that pair. Only select skate shops will release the green pair and the yellow pair will be the only one you can purchase through Nike's SNKRS app on release day. Each pair is retailing for $110. The latter two pairs release on July 24.
In related news, you can still enter for a chance to win the Concepts x Nike SB Dunk Low "Green" Lobster and "Purple" Lobster through their BLM raffle.
