Thursday Briefing: Nike SB Olympic collaborations, Louis Vuitton x Nike x Off-White, Cactus Jack Dior, Futura & The North Face update and more

News recap from June 22 to July 7

July 4th celebrations included the usual illegal fireworks and crowded beaches again this year in NYC and damn, it felt kind of good. In addition to record heatwaves striking across the country, we are also dealing with the Delta strain of COVID so it's best to enjoy everything while we can in case of another lockdown. Here's what you may have missed during your revenge travels and spending sprees.

Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2022

For Spring/Summer 2022, Virgil Abloh decided to use film as his medium for expression. The entire collection was shown in the film Amen Break on June 24 and featured appearances by celebrities like GZA and Lupe Fiasco to name a few. The title for the film and collection draws inspiration from a 1969 drum solo with the same name that was a key to the foundation of hip-hop and jungle music. The film strongly employs martial arts as a way out from gang violence and also hits on sub-cultures collectively. Check out the film below.

Louis Vuitton x Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 Spring/Summer 2022 collection

In the Louis Vuitton SS22 collection mentioned above, we got our first glimpse at a plethora of Air Force 1 Low and Mid silhouettes donned in bright colors and even the famous LV Monogram. The graphic monogram print is accompanied by colors like blue, yellow, red and green amongst others as well as Off-White's touches like the "AIR" on the heel, green tab and SKU. These will definitely be highly sought after.

Dior Summer 2022

Kim Jones tapped Travis Scott for a collaborative effort in Dior's Summer 2022 campaign and show. "Cactus Jack Dior" shouldn't be a surprise to anyone as La Flame modeled the Air Jordan 1 "Dior" campaign previously and Dior's early American history had roots in the state of Texas - where Travis is king. The collection is the first in Dior's history done by a musician and it drew from classical Southwestern aesthetics as well as Scott's Cactus Jack design ethos. You can watch the show below.

Nike SB Tokyo Olympics collaborations

Nike SB is bringing ridiculous heat to the Tokyo Olympics - which will finally take place after a year of being postponed due to the pandemic. Officially, only the Parra Dunk Low is an official collaboration for the Olympics, as it has a matching Federation Kit. But the FTC, Bandai Gundam and Quartersnacks collabs all have ties and inspiration to the country. Quartersnacks drew inspiration from the famously fluffy Japanese cakes and adds a zebra twist to it while the Gundam Unicorn series is paid homage with two colors of the Dunk High and the FTC Dunk Low draws inspiration from public bathhouses. Check out the sneakers below and look for them to arrive at shops soon.
